Formed by vocalist and guitarist Tobias Osland, drummer Ferdinand Aasheim, and bassist Ole Benjamin Thomassen, Hammok released their first EP JUMPING/FIGHTING/DANCING in 2022, which was followed by their debut album, Look How Long Lasting Everything Is Moving Forward For Once, released in 2024.
"The Scene" was written as Osland began reflecting on the acceptance that they received from international hardcore communities, and offers the first taster of the experimental hardcore sound of When Does This Place Become Our Scene.
Speaking about the song, Osland explains: “Everything was sort of a natural response to how good the tour was going, and all the people we had met up to that point. I wanted to capture and directly address the situation we were in - meeting people for the first time who give a shit about their community and the music around them.”
Produced by Osland, When Does This Place Become Our Scene explores the lineage of hardcore music and social politics while also exploring the experience of growing up in the age of social media. “A central idea was: What does it mean to be alone? Is it a strength? Do you feel a part of something? A community?" Osland explains of the inspiration behind the album.
