Nintendo has confirmed that the long-awaited Hollow Knight: Silksong is definitely coming out later this year.
Hollow Knight: Silksong was first announced back in 2019. Originally the game was set to be an expansion of 2017’s Hollow Knight but developers Team Cherry later changed direction and turned it into a fully-fledged sequel.
The game had been due for release in the first half of 2023 but it was delayed and a new launch date has never been confirmed. Earlier this year, Xbox annoyed a number of fans by casually mentioning Hollow Knight: Silksong was still coming to Xbox Game Pass at some point.
During yesterday’s Switch 2 Direct, Nintendo shared footage of Hollow Knight: Silksong and confirmed the game was set to launch on the new console. It also announced a release date of 2025.
A follow-up Tweet from Nintendo confirmed the game would be coming “this year”
Following the reveal, the Xbox Game Pass X account reminded fans that Hollow Knight: Silksong was still due to release Day One on the service.
“Now what will we Silksong fans do when the game comes out and we can no longer repeat the same joke,” one fan asked on X. “Low key the announcement of the day,” said another. “Everyone waiting years for a Silksong announcement and Nintendo just dropped it for like three seconds like is nothing,” added a third.

Last year, developers were forced to confirm they were “still hard at work on the game” after fans began to speculate that Hollow Knight: Silksong had been cancelled due to a lack of updates from Team Cherry. It was a similar story in January when developer Matthew Griffin reassured fans that “the game is real, progressing and will release.”
As well as Hollow Knight: Silksong, Nintendo confirmed Elden Ring, Borderlands 4, Split Fiction, Star Wars Outlaws, Final Fantasy 7 Remake Intergrade and Yakuza 0 Director’s Cut would also be coming to the Switch 2 alongside a number of Gamecube titles. A new Mario Kart game World has also been announced as a launch title for the new console.
However players aren’t happy about the price of the Switch 2, with new games costing up to £75.
In other news, Call Of Duty developers have finally added a much-requested feature to Black Ops 6 that will hopefully reduce the number of cheats
