Aussie, Aussie, Aussie, oof, oof, oof: Hugh Jackman serenaded his fellow countryman Rupert Murdoch at the conservative media titan’s 95th birthday party.
As People was first to report, Jackman performed songs from The Greatest Showman, as well as covers of Sinatra tunes “Fly Me to the Moon” and “New York New York.” He finished the birthday tribute with Peter Allen’s “I Still Call Australia Home.”
As head of News Corp, Murdoch owns dozens of tabloids and newspapers in the US, UK, and Australia, and he also founded Fox News in 1996. His ruthless tactics, advanced age, and apparent lack of trust in his adult children inspired HBO’s Succession.
Murdoch has become an ally of Donald Trump, and while the American President did not attend the birthday party, he did send well-wishes in a video message played at the event. Via the New York Post, Trump praised the “legendary” Murdoch, touting his “courage, vision, and determination,” and saying he’s “changed the world,” which is undoubtedly true, though perhaps not for the better.
People notes that Jackman’s longtime friends Ivanka Trump and Jared Kushner were cheering him on. Murdoch’s children James, Elisabeth, and Prudence did not attend.
