Following Myra's previous albums Horizons (2022) and Rising (2024), "Reflections", a folk-inspired composition built around its string arrangements, arrives as the introduction to a collection of songs that see her reflect on life and growth.
Speaking about the track, Myra says: “Reflections encapsulates the overall sound and energy of this album. This track, like others on the album, has a folk influence, combined with my usual sound. This was also my first time writing for strings, which I was really excited about. I wanted them to be a more prominent feature on the album, compared to my previous releases. I particularly love the string melodies on this track, and the depth they create.”
Where Light Settles was recorded over five days at The Nave studios in Leeds, and is Myra's first self-produced work, with Gondwana Records’ Matthew Halsall joining the process as co-producer. On the album, Myra is accompanied by her own longtime ensemble, as well as a 15-piece ensemble conducted by Leeds’ Ancient Infinity Orchestra bandleader Ozzy Moysey.
Discussing the inspiration behind When Light Settles, Myra says: “It’s those bittersweet moments which are heart-breaking but so important. Looking forward and trying to make sense of life. Pain is unavoidable, and you’ll have hardship no matter what, but you don’t grow or learn about yourself or the world around you without it. The duality is the growth and coming out the other side. I had the concept from the start.”
