Jason Isbell and the 400 Unit Reinvent “Crimson and Clay” for Kimmel: Watch

Jason Isbell and the 400 Unit swung by Jimmy Kimmel Live! with a new, more muscular version of “Crimson and Clay.”

The song comes from Isbell’s Grammy-nominated solo album Foxes in the Snow. But with a 2026 tour kicking off this month, that solo project has been reconceived as a full-band effort. The acoustic version of “Crimson and Clay” had a dreamy vibe, but here it benefits from the extra bite of electric guitars and a rhythm section that shapes the tune’s quiet introspection and thunderous epiphanies. Don’t tell Jason I said this, but this new arrangement might even be better. Check it out below.
