Joe Perry: Aerosmith Weighing “Other Options” Following Tour Retirement

Guitarist Joe Perry says there’s still some life left in Aerosmith despite the band apparently calling it a day a couple years ago.

The Rock & Roll Hall of Fame band retired from touring in 2024 due to an injury sustained by vocalist Steven Tyler a few shows into their farewell tour the previous year. The singer suffered a broken larynx and vocal cord damage.

Since then, Tyler has returned to the stage for some one-off performances and charity gigs, while Aerosmith reconvened in 2025 to release a collaborative EP with with Yungblud titled One More Time.

“The band is still kind of definitely not in touring mode, but there are certainly other options, so we stay in touch,” Perry told Billboard in a new interview.

“You just never know,” he added. “It’s just been in the last six months that Steven’s started to get comfortable with singing; he literally had to take a year off before he was able to start stretching his vocal cords, and you’re always worried about reinjuring it. I learned a long time ago that everything we do is fragile… so we just take it day by day. You hope for the best. You just have to have the confidence and have that vision of positive in front of you. You can’t do it unless you envision it.”

As mentioned, Tyler has performed live a number of times since retiring from touring, including at Ozzy and Black Sabbath’s Back to the Beginning concert last July, where his voice sounded strong.
