A live video accompanying the track features Patterson and producer/Dijon collaborator Marshall Mulherin performing with acoustic guitars on the back of a pick-up truck.
Songs From A Valley Girl marks Patterson’s first release with Secretly Canadian, following her 2025 debut LP The Hermit, released by the Ozella's Child label.
The new EP draws its name from her experience growing up in the San
Fernando Valley. “There’s a line right where Burbank starts and trickles
into the valley, and things shift and start to sprawl,” Patterson says.
“This batch of music in particular feels like Sherman Oaks meets Van
Nuys. That's what this project feels like. It feels so inviting.”
Recorded with producers including Eric Van Thyne, John Debold, Henry Kwapis, and Kali Flanagan, as well as Mulherin, the five-track record is described by Patterson as “exactly what I meant to say.” She adds: “I felt like I believed in myself. I had a lot of faith. I was like, if I'm gonna make this EP, it's gonna be exactly what I meant to say.”
Patterson recently completed a US tour supporting Searows. She is scheduled to play End of the Road Festival, Pitchfork Paris, and Pitchfork London later this year, as well as open for Sharon Van Etten and Kevin Morby at Secretly Group’s ‘What Comes After The Blues’ showcase in Bloomington, Indiana in August.
