Distance In Static follows Bonobo's — the alias of Simon Green — 2022 album Fragments, with new single "Me and You" arriving as a glimpse into the upcoming work. The track has been featured in recent DJ sets, including two road-block pop-ups in London and Paris.
Distance In Static features collaborations with artists including Joy Crookes, Nilüfer Yanya, Ichiko Aoba, Arooj Aftab, Nicole Miglis (Hundred Waters), and Aanya Martin, with lyrics in nglish, Urdu and Japanese with historic Iranian samples and guzheng recording among the tracks. The album was recorded across several locations including Los Angeles, London, and Tokyo, with much of it completed at Neil Young's Broken Arrow Ranch in California.
The new work is set to celebrate twenty-five years of Bonobo's craft as an electronic musician, but is potentially his last record in a "traditional" sense. “It’s probably the last go-around the track in this format,” Green notes. Speaking on the future of his musical path, he adds: “I don't know what that will look like just yet, but It's really about me redefining how to be a musician from here.”
Bonobo has also announced a new live show designed by Pierre Claude, who has worked with the likes of Air, Gesaffelstein, Phoenix, and Caroline Polachek, which is scheduled to take place in November throughout North America, following a summer DJ tour with two dates remaining in Spain in September.
