The saga continues: Last week Kanye West was banned from the UK after he was announced as the headliner of London's Wireless Festival, which led to the event's cancelation. Now it looks like the rapper might be banned from France, too.
A source told AFP that Interior Minister Laurent Nuñez is "highly determined" to ban Ye's June 11 concert at Marseille's Velodrome stadium and is exploring "all possibilities." The source said Nuñez discussed the possible concert ban with the regional prefect and the mayor of Marseille during his visit to the city last week.
Last month, left-wing mayor Benoit Payan said he opposed Ye's visit and refused "to allow Marseille to be a showcase for those who promote hatred."
Upon banning Ye from the UK, British Prime Minister Keir Starmer had said, "It is deeply concerning Kanye West has been booked to perform at Wireless despite his previous antisemitic remarks and celebration of Nazism." Ye apologized for his Nazism and antisemitism in January in an ad in the Wall Street Journal ad, claiming the behavior was a result of bipolar disorder and a previously undiagnosed brain injury from his famous 2002 car crash.
