Kanye West has been accused in a new lawsuit of sucker-punching another diner at Los Angeles’ Chateau Marmont in April 2024, as first reported by TMZ.
The unidentified plaintiff, who is suing as John Doe, filed the complaint in LA County Superior Court, accusing the embattled artist of battery and infliction of emotional distress.
According to the lawsuit, the incident occurred at the hotel’s private dining area on April 16th, 2024, around 11:00 p.m. The plaintiff claims West approached him at his table and punched him in the face without warning. This punch allegedly “knocked him to the ground,” after which West “repeatedly punched him as he lay unconscious.”
John Doe says he did nothing to provoke West, who allegedly accused the plaintiff of engaging in offensive and inappropriate conduct toward a woman. The plaintiff also claims he was subject to “public scorn, suspicion, and ridicule” after West repeated the accusations on The Download podcast.
In the podcast interview, West alleged that a man grabbed his wife, Bianca Censori, as she walked to the restroom at the Chateau Marmont. “I talked to the guy like you just need to leave… and I’m like, ‘No it’s not okay, it wasn’t okay,'” West said. “Then he started… had to go to bed early — tucked this n***a in.”
The plaintiff is seeking punitive damages, economic losses, non-economic damages, and compensation for medical expenses and emotional distress.
This latest lawsuit comes after West was barred from entering the UK earlier this month. He was originally scheduled for a three-day headlining appearance at this summer’s Wireless Festival in London, but his visa request was denied following backlash over his history of antisemitic remarks. This led to the festival’s cancellation.
