Kid Cudi is back. A few days ago Cudi announced a new EP titled HAVE U BN 2 HEAVEN @ NITE. It was created over the past 10 days, with Cudi streaming the recording process on Twitch, calling the episodes "Someone Cooked Here." Now those four songs are packaged into a self-released EP full of self-reflection and psychedelic acoustic ballads.
"My new EP featuring songs I cooked on stream, dropping this friday ‼️ Didn't know ud get new music this year and look, all for you," he shared on social media couple days ago. "This streaming experience has been crazy for me, and Im so happy u all were able to be there to see how my songs come together. Theres a bonus joint on the EP too that I never recorded on stream but we made the beat. New vibes incoming."
HAVE U BN 2 HEAVEN @ NITE takes some dark turns. On "DROWN," he sings about an evil that wants to drown him. Then on the following "HALOS ON ANGELS," he's denied ascension. "Wish I could just start new/ They say I'm lost, won't fly," he sings. It sounds like he's having a powerful ayahuasca trip in the middle of the desert, confronting his demons. "I can't еrase the shame, nah/ Seems I'm running on E." The song is flooded with melodic vocal cries as if he's undergoing a painful transformation. The project ends on a high nite with "RIDE RIDE," one of the EP's stronger songs. He doesn't come to any profound conclusions, but he sounds happy, smoking his blunts and taking everything in stride.
