Kraig Jarret Johnson (Golden Smog, Jayhawks) diagnosed with cancer; GoFundMe launched

Kraig Jarret Johnson, a Minneapolis indie vet who’s played in Golden Smog, The Jayhawks, Run Westy Run, and other groups over the last 40 years, has been diagnosed with cancer. His family wrote: “He underwent surgery to remove a third of his colon and after some tests, we learned that the cancer has spread to his lymph nodes.”

His family has set up a GoFundMe to cover costs of Keith’s cancer treatment. They write:

Over the next few months he will be undergoing chemotherapy and will be unable to work. Our mom will be Kraig’s primary caregiver and they will both be out of work for the foreseeable future. We are raising funds to cover their household expenses (for possibly the rest of the year) as well as the endless medical bills they will encounter.

Our city is under occupation. We have friends and neighbors dying in the streets.

Our mom and Kraig are the most generous people we know and have taught us how to show up for those we love, those we do not know. We are abundantly aware of the crisis our community is facing, especially our immigrant neighbors, our Black and Brown neighbors, and other vulnerable community members. It feels like an inappropriate time to ask for community support; we would not be asking for funds if we had any other option. We are hoping to support mom and Kraig’s ability to house and feed themselves and fight this battle.

You can donate to Keith's GoFundMe here, and here's hoping for a full recovery.

Keith was in NYC with Golden Smog in December, and also with them at Wilco's Sky Blue Sky destination concert vacation in January.
