Last August, Kirsten Dunst gave an interview to Town and Country Magazine declaring that while she was still committed to doing smaller movies, she’d love to do a movie like Minecraft 2, “because her kids loved the first one and because she’d like to make a pile of cash. ‘Maybe I can just make a movie where I don’t lose money?'”
Well, Dunst’s wish is coming true, as Deadline reports that the actress has now been cast to star in the upcoming sequel to box office juggernaut A Minecraft Movie. She’s specifically been cast as Alex, one of the game’s defautl characters, whose arrival was teased in a post-credits sequence at the end of the first film.
Dunst will join the first film’s stars, including Jason Momoa, Jack Black, Danielle Brooks, Matt Berry, and Jennifer Coolidge, in the sequel, with director Jared Hess also returning to handle the video game action. For more, here’s Dunst and Channing Tatum on the struggle to bring audiences to theaters for smaller movies, like their past project Roofman. It’s likely Minecraft 2 won’t experience a similar problem.
