Kurt Vile Joins Fontaines D.C. At La Route Du Rock

Fontaines D.C. are slowly coming back into the fold, ratcheting up the hype along the way. Earlier this week, they debuted a couple of new songs live and have been teasing a new album. But last night, at the closing night of French festival La Route du Rock in Fort-de-Saint-Père, France, the Irish rockers brought out one of the inspirations behind their 2022 hit "Roman Holiday" — Kurt Vile.In a Rolling Stone interview promoting Skinty Fia, Grian Chatten shared that Vile inspired the album’s "easy listening" vibe, which the band approached as a kind of Trojan horse to lure listeners in. He said: There’s more breathing space and a groove is established. There’s no groove on the first two records in the same way and we’re not leaning into something so much on this record. There’s more of a Trojan Horse thing of creating a mood to draw the listener in, and once we’re in then our ideology and ideas come out. But it’s easy listening first, through songs like ‘Roman Holiday’. I’d say that song was quite inspired by Kurt Vile; I saw him play in Croatia two years ago when we were playing there and I envied him.
