Heaven 2 follows Lala Lala’s — the project of Lillie West — previous albums The Lamb and I Want the Door to Open, which were both released on Sub Pop imprint Hardly Art. West has also announced a North American tour set to kick off in March, and revealed two songs from the new album, “Even Mountains Erode” and “Heaven2”.
Heaven2 was written when West decided to leave Chicago — her home of several years — and travel through New Mexico, Iceland, and London, during which she also made her 2024 instrumental album If I Were A Real Man I Would Be Able To Break The Neck Of A Suffering Bird before deciding to settle in Los Angeles. She produced Heaven2 with Jay Som’s Melina Duterte, both whom played most of the instruments on the album, along with contributions from guests Sen Morimoto, Macie Stewart, and Porches’ Aaron Maine.
Speaking of the experience that fuelled Heaven 2, West says: “Resistance is the root of all suffering, and I did not know that. I thought that I could dictate the course of my life.” She notes that, “wherever you go, there you are.”
