The track "First Light" was written and composed by Del Rey alongside David Arnold, the composer behind five consecutive Bond films including Casino Royale and Skyfall. Arnold’s return to the franchise marks a significant connection to Bond’s on-screen musical heritage – his work on the Pierce Brosnan and Daniel Craig eras helped define the modern orchestral and electronic palette of the series.
For 007 First Light, he co-writes with Del Rey, whose aesthetic – often cinematic and noir-tinged – has drawn frequent comparisons to classic Bond balladry. “The Bond theme is a unique storytelling moment; it has to capture scale, drama, and intrigue all at once,” Arnold says. “Having been part of that musical lineage, I understand how important it is to honour its heritage while allowing it to evolve. Lana brought an elegance and atmosphere to the song that felt perfectly suited to continuing that tradition while introducing something fresh for a new era.”
IO Interactive chief executive Hakan Abrak framed the collaboration as central to the game’s ambitions: “It’s a joy to watch two extraordinary talents like Lana Del Rey and David Arnold combine forces,” he says. “The result feels instantly ‘Bond’ while still bringing a fresh identity for 007 First Light. Bond’s return to gaming is a landmark moment for us at IO Interactive, and having a title song of this quality makes it all the more unforgettable.”
No release date for 007 First Light has been confirmed, though the game is understood to be a standalone origin story following a young James Bond at the beginning of his espionage career, rather than an adaptation of any single Fleming novel or film.
