Icelandic-Chinese chanteuse Laufey recently performed a captivating cover of Joni Mitchell’s timeless tune “Both Sides Now” at BBC Radio 2’s Piano Room at Maida Vale Studios. Watch her performance below.
The Grammy-winning singer delivered a breathtaking rendition of “Both Sides Now” while accompanied by the world-famous BBC Concert Orchestra. The original version was first released by Mitchell on 1969’s Clouds, with an orchestral rendition re-recorded for her 2000 album of the same name. The latter version soundtracks a particularly emotional scene in the 2003 film, Love Actually.
After performing “Both Sides Now” and her 2025 track “Lover Girl,” Laufey gave the world a taste of her new single, “How I Get.” Sung with the same loving intensity as Mitchell’s classic track, Laufey’s touching admission to being angry with a partner comes across as an emotional plea for understanding, enhanced by the BBC Concert Orchestra’s accompaniment.
“How I Get” is set to appear on the upcoming deluxe edition of her album, A Matter of Time. The project, which is called A Matter of Time: The Final Hour, is out on April 10th.
During the recent Winter Olympics, Laufey’s 2023 song “Promise” soundtracked women’s figure skating gold medalist Alysa Liu’s short program. The skater and singer actually had a previous connection, with Laufey selecting Liu as the “Best Dressed Guest” at her concert in San Francisco last year.
If you want to catch Laufey live in the UK and Europe, you’re in luck, as she has tour dates (get tickets here) scheduled from now through March. After that, she’s set to make appearances at Coachella and Rock in Rio.
