Laufey's new book follows the release of her third album A Matter of Time in August, which topped four Billboard album charts within its first week of release. This year, she has also launched The Laufey Foundation, a project which aims to make youth music and orchestral programs more accessible.
“I’m so excited to now share Mei Mei The Bunny in story book form! Mei Mei has been a part of my life for over the last few years and opening up the world around her has been the most beautiful exploration. I hope that anyone at any age can find something in Mei Mei’s story that inspires them and connects them to the people in their lives," Laufey says of her debut. The book is illustrated by Dublin-based artist Lauren O’Hara, who was awarded the Children's Books Ireland Illustration Honour award in 2022.
The story follows the story of a bunny, "Mei Mei", who dreams of making the world happy with her music. The character was first introduced in 2024 as part of The Laufey Book Club, which was founded in 2022. "Mei Mei" became a fan-favourite, and she now has her own plush toy, bag charms, and social media following.
