Levity, Lane 8 Among First Electronic Artists to Leave Wasserman in Response to Epstein Files

2 weeks ago 11

Levity, Lane 8, and salute are among the artists who have spoken up and cut ties with Wasserman after emails surfaced between the company’s CEO and Jeffrey Epstein.

Recent weeks have seen the US Department of Justice release more documents that were uncovered during the investigations of late sex trafficker Jeffrey Epstein. Emails between his accomplice, Ghislaine Maxwell, and Wasserman CEO Casey Wasserman surfaced during this time. Many called for Wasserman to step down from his role at the company, and now artists who have been represented by the agency are doing their part by speaking out and breaking away.

Major names in the music scene, such as pop artist Chappel Roan, Irish-American band Dropkick Murphys, and pop duo Syvlan Esso, have since dropped Wasserman as their representation, according to Billboard. Those in the electronic music side of the spectrum have also begun to follow suit. This includes Austrian DJ and producer salute, who was one of the first to speak up about the issue.

“I’m looking to leave Wasserman btw, and if you’re on their roster, you should chat to your agent about doing the same,” they said in a post on X on February 6.

In a follow-up post on another thread, salute highlighted the complexity of the situation and why it takes time for artists to depart, as neither they nor their agent wanted to cut ties. “He requested his (and his rosters) removal from the agency before I even sent that initial tweet, but you’ll understand this takes time,” they said. It’s important to note that agents at Wasserman typically don’t have a direct tie to Casey Wasserman himself.

we're figuring out the best way of doing this as neither i nor my agent want to cut ties with each other. he requested his (and his rosters) removal from the agency before i even even sent that initial tweet but you'll understand this takes time

Earlier today, Lane 8 announced on his social media channels that he is leaving the agency. “I have communicated to my team that I no longer wish to be represented by Wasserman Music Agency,” the This Never Happened label boss said in a post on his Instagram Stories. “The continued abuse of power by those at the very top of this industry saddens me immensely, but I am encouraged by the artists, teams, and agency staff who have come together in the hope of building something new that better represents our values.”

Dubstep trio Levity, who had quickly responded to those calling them to leave Wasserman earlier this month, have since announced that they have cut ties with the agency.

“We are no longer represented by the Wasserman talent agency. We do not stand for the actions of its CEO and refuse to be represented by his company,” said Levity via their Instagram Stories. “We love and appreciate our actual agents, and we hope they find a new scenario we can be a part of.”

Another artist who has spoken of their departure from Wasserman recently is A Hundred Drums. The DJ, producer, and co-founder of B-Side LA announced in a post on X on February 4 that she was no longer represented by the agency. While not explicitly stating the reason for her decision, in a conversation with salute on X she mentioned that it was for “several reasons” and that “current situations didn’t help.”

Last week, Wasserman removed the artist roster from its website, and the link now redirects to the company’s “Contact Us” page.

An archive of the roster was made prior to the removal. Other known artists in the scene who are, or were, listed as being represented by Wasserman include Alok, ALLEYCVT, ANOTR, Baauer, BLOND:ISH, Bob Moses, Culture Shock, Disclosure, DJ Snake, Duke Dumont, Gesaffelstein, and Louis The Child, among many others.

This is a developing story, and EDM Identity will provide additional updates as they become available.
