Limp Bizkit’s Sam Rivers Omitted from Grammys’ Televised “In Memoriam” Segment

In addition to disappointment from the metal community that Mastodon’s Brent Hinds was omitted from the 2026 Grammy Awards’ televised “In Memoriam” segment on Sunday night, rock fans were also left wondering why Limp Bizkit bassist Sam Rivers was also left off the on-screen tribute.

Many of the artists and music-industry personnel who passed away over the past year were displayed on a big screen as tribute performances took place on the stages of the Crypto.com Arena, including an all-star rendition of “War Pigs” in honor of Ozzy Osbourne.

While there is a small chance that an image of Rivers could’ve been displayed when cameras cut to a close-up of the performance, it’s unlikely as the CBS broadcast cut to a wide shot whenever any of the late musicians appeared on the video backdrop.

Despite never winning a Grammy, Rivers received three nominations as a member of Limp Bizkit, including Best Hard Rock Performance in 2000 for “Nookie”; Best Rock Album in 2000 for Significant Other; and Best Hard Rock Performance in 2001 for “Take a Look Around” (from Mission: Impossible 2).

Rivers, who co-founded Limp Bizkit and was a member of the pioneering nu-metal band until his passing, sadly died in October of last year at the young age of 48. The band ultimately decided to proceed with a late-2025 Latin American tour, enlisting bassist Richie “Kid Not” Buxton to fill Rivers’ shoes.

Like Brent Hinds, Sam Rivers is listed on the “In Memoriam” page of the official Grammys website.
