Iconic vocalist Linda Perry has announced a new solo album, Let It Die Here. She’s also released its first single, “Beautiful,” with a cinematic music video. Watch it below.
Out on May 8th via Kill Rock Stars/670 Records, Let It Die Here will be the lead singer of 4 Non Blondes’ first solo album in over 25 years. It’s currently available for preorder. According to a press release, her inspiration to write the songs for the project came while she was filming a documentary that’s named after the album — and will hit theaters in May.
Perry has released the album’s first single, “Beautiful,” which will sound familiar to anyone who’s heard Christina Aguilera’s smash 2002 hit of the same name. That’s because Perry wrote that song, and now she’s released a version that reframes its message through her own experience.
“When I wrote ‘Beautiful,’ I had no idea I was struggling inside. ‘I am beautiful no matter what they say.’ ‘They’ represents the insecurities we all face, the fear that makes people unkind simply because someone or something is different,” said Perry in a statement about the track. “‘Beautiful’ is about self-expression, being free to be whoever you want to be.”
In the accompanying music video that stars actors Lukas Haas and Shane Powers, the theme of “Beautiful” is seen through the eyes of a child and a talent show where self-acceptance determines the real winner. It’s a striking visual that should inspire us all to be free to be who we really are.
Perry will perform “Beautiful” on Jimmy Kimmel Live! On February 24th.
Along with her upcoming album, Perry is gearing up for a new 4 Non Blondes album that’s set to come out later this year.
