Lizzy Rain Wins First WWE NXT Match with Iron Maiden Scream and AC/DC-Inspired Finisher: Watch

2 days ago 4

Wrestler Lizzy Rain, niece of late Iron Maiden drummer Clive Burr, made her debut in WWE on NXT on Tuesday night, imitating the iconic call of Iron Maiden singer Bruce Dickinson on her way to winning her first match against Nikkita Lyons with the AC/DC-inspired finisher Thunderstruck.

The match started with Rain entering the ring to a pre-recorded tape of her shouting, “Scream for me, NXT! Lizzy Rain is bringing heavy metal tonight!” Dickinson has for decades used the “Scream for me” call, subbing in the name of the city where Iron Maiden are performing, to energize the crowd. The high-energy match ended with Rain defeating Lyons with the aforementioned finishing move.

Rain sat down with wrestling legend Bully Ray on SiriusXM’s Busted Open After Dark and explained the origin of her finisher, named after AC/DC’s iconic song.

Rain said, “It’s my knee that hits her. I got inspired from Meiko Satomura’s Scorpion Rising. I wanted to do a Shining Wizard, but a lot of people do Shining Wizards. Used to do the Knee Trembler as a finish and I still wanted to do some kind of knee or Shining Wizardy thing. Me and my coach were just thinking, ‘What can we do that’s a little bit different?’ And we thought, ‘Oh, what about a pop-up one?’”

She added, “So we did it and we were like, ‘This is the sickest finish ever, we need to do this. This needs to be your finish.’ Then the name comes from the leg looking a little bit like a thunderbolt, and you know, AC/DC ‘Thunderstruck,’ it kind of fits perfectly.”

A Shining Wizard is a move invented by the wrestling legend the Great Muta in which a wrestler steps up on their kneeling opponent’s knee in order to deliver a knee to the side of the head.

Meanwhile, Iron Maiden will bring their “Run for Your Lives Tour” to North America beginning in September (pick up tickets here). AC/DC are also slated to hit North America, launching a tour in July with tickets available for those shows here.
