Louis Tomlinson hits out at “conspiracy chat” about personal life: “It’s just too much and too hurtful for me to see!”

Louis Tomlinson has hit out against “conspiracy” theories about his personal life, sharing that he finds it “too hurtful”.

The comments were made on X/Twitter, and see the singer and former One Direction member once again speak out against the false rumours regarding his family and his sexuality.

Much of it stems from the long-running conspiracy that he was romantically involved with his former bandmate Harry Styles – something both have consistently dismissed and criticised fans for going too far with.

Now, Tomlinson has spoken out against it yet again, saying that it has become “too much” and something he finds “hurtful” to see.

“The last few months have made it impossible to be on here,” he said on X/Twitter. “All the conspiracy chat about my relationship, my son or even stretching sometimes to opinions on my Mum. It’s just too much and too hurtful for me to see!

“Thank you to everyone who always has my back!”

As shared on a Reddit fan discussion, the rumours about him and Styles date back as far back as 2010, and have recurrently gotten out of hand. One example shared claimed that some people have gone as far as “wishing the death of his son Freddie,” who was born in 2016.

The conspiracies around his personal life continued to circulate at tough points in the singer’s life, with the band breaking up in 2016, his mother dying from leukaemia two weeks before his birthday that year, and his 18-year-old sister being found dead in her apartment in 2019.

The Reddit post also alleges that some fans criticised Tomlinson online for playing One Direction songs on his solo tours and festival appearances over the years, despite him being credited as a songwriter on much of the group’s discography.

This isn’t the first time that the singer has had to speak out against the insensitive rumour mill from fans over the years. In 2012, Tomlinson tweeted: “Larry is the biggest load of bullshit I’ve ever heard. I’m happy, why can’t you accept that.” He then reportedly banned the term ‘Larry’ from his Instagram in 2016.

Then, last spring he addressed it again and said that false speculation about an alleged relationship with Styles was “irritating” and “far too personal”.

“What’s tough is, I’ve realised – I realised this some years ago – there is nothing I can say,” he said at the time. “There is nothing I can do to dispel the believers of that conspiracy.”

“It does irritate me a little bit, you know? But it is just kind of the nature of the job, I suppose,” he added. “There are times where it gets far too personal within that whole space… I’ve got my son, Freddie, who’s the most important person in my life. Occasionally, it kind of broaches some stuff that’s really unfair.”

In 2017, Styles explained that he had “never felt the need” to label his sexuality. He then said in 2022 that it was “outdated” to do so: “I’ve been really open with it with my friends, but that’s my personal experience; it’s mine.”
