Throughout 2025, Maddie Ashman has shared her avant-pop microtonal music through self-recorded home performances, support spots with King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard during their European rave tour, and an appearance with Jon Hopkins and Leo Abrahams at Fabric London. Today, she reveals the details of her first EP, and offers a new preview of the work with her latest song "Waterlily", which follows previously released singles “Seraphim”, “Jaded”, and “In Autumn My Heart Breaks”.
Speaking of the new single, Ashman explains: "It’s about how sometimes doing what we are ‘meant to be doing’, as society has taught us to, feels completely wrong. It’s about putting on a smile day to day, masking feelings and suppressing dreams. It’s about doing what society has taught us to, putting stability and money ahead of our dreams."
Discussing the new EP, Ashman adds: “I wanted a project that could express everything I wanted to explore: from breakbeats to choral, pop to classical. Turning away from the ‘normal’, ‘conventional’, ‘expected’, and towards the 'unspoken’, ‘what ifs’ and ‘unexpected’."
To celebrate the new release, Ashman will be performing a solo London headline show at The Brunel Museum on 5 February. Ticket presale begins on 20 January, while general sale will take place from 22 January.
