Man/Woman/Chainsaw – “Get Up And Dance”

The keyboard sounds like it's whistling. That's the first thing that jumps out at me on "Get Up And Dance," the eerie and entrancing new single from Man/Woman/Chainsaw. The young British Band To Watch have been rolling out their debut album Cannonball, sharing the winsome advance tracks "Only Girl," "Nosedive," and "Goddamn, Lizard Man!" This cannonball launch is not slowing down, either.

Today M/W/C are back with "Get Up And Dance," which features Emmie-Mae Avery on lead vocals and builds from quiet intimacy to expansive splendor. Avery offered some insights on its lyrical content:

In my mind it's set in a club, where you spot someone who’s been trying their luck with different people all night and decide to turn the game back on them. It starts playful but then takes a forceful approach, as you push them to prove their interest and test how far they’ll go, aiming to have them make a fool of themselves.

Not exactly the sound and substance I expect to hear from a song called "Get Up And Dance," but I like it. Listen below.

Cannonball is out 8/7 on Fiction.
