The latest showcase for Mario Kart World has excited fans wanting Nintendo to “raise the price”.

Broadcast earlier today (April 17), the 15-minute Direct gave fans a better look at the new and improved Mario Kart game, World.

Set to launch alongside the Switch 2 on June 5, Mario Kart World will introduce Free Roam to the franchise, allowing players to drive off-road and explore the various worlds and levels that Nintendo has created. Today, Nintendo confirmed a number of secrets that can be discovered in Free Roam, including blue coins and medallions to collect.

While exploring the open world Mario Kart World, players can also visit Yoshi’s Dinner and collect a drive-thru meal, which will then unlock a themed outfit. You can also take over a lorry and destroy the environment.

As for the races, players will be able to drive along walls and dodge enemy attacks by jumping, while secret passageways can be uncovered by stringing tricks together. And if you mess it up, you can “rewind” to give it another go – but other karts won’t be affected.

New techniques are making their debut in #MarioKartWorld!

The stream started with a number of viewers demanding Nintendo “drop the price” of the game. Earlier this month, Nintendo was heavily criticised for the Switch 2’s “insane” pricing strategy. Mario Kart World will cost £74.99 while new 3D platformer Donkey Kong Bananza will cost £66.99 and a digital-only version of the game is priced at £58.99. Various Nintendo streams to showcase the new console were also flooded with fans demanding the company “drop the price”.

However towards the end of today’s Mario Kart World stream, many excited fans were asking for Nintendo to “raise the price”.

“It’s still a steep price but damn this is by FAR the biggest Mario Kart ever, I’m blown away,” one fan wrote on Reddit. “The game looks like a banger,” said another. “I was sold on it when they showed that you can take shortcuts over the void by riding on the inside of the track. I really want to beat other people by doing some insane impossible acrobatics,” added a third.

However other fans are worried that Nintendo charging £75 for Mario Kart World will set a precedent that other studios will follow.

Defending the price, Nintendo previously said it will be using a “variable” pricing structure, with the RRP of titles worked out by how much time went into development and how replayable they are, amongst other factors. It’s also been confirmed that the Switch 2 game cartridges will taste horrible

In other news, the final major update for Baldur’s Gate 3 has been released and fans are paying tribute to “one of the best games ever made”.
