Norwegian black metal pioneers Mayhem have returned with a very positive new single, "Life Is a Corpse You Drag" alongside an official music video. Which I assure you is also as bright and cheery as the song's title suggests.
"Life Is a Corpse You Drag" comes from Mayhem's new record Liturgy of Death, due out February 6. Liturgy of Death explores death with stark philosophical clarity, presenting human life as a fragile, temporary state suspended between gain and loss, both destined for the same silence.
"Life Is a Corpse You Drag" captures this ethos in its most distilled form. Vocalist Attila Csihar describes the track as more than a statement, calling it "a ritual and a realization."
"'Life Is a Corpse You Drag' is not a slogan, but a ritual and a realization," said Csihar. "It names an ancient law: Consciousness as burden, the body as vessel, faith as a seal on a grave already closed.
"There is no comfort in this recognition but there is release. If we have been dead all along, there is nothing left to lose. What remains is pure energy: Movement without fear, presence without compromise, a victorious march into the final destruction."
