Merchandise release first song in 9 years, say new album is “coming soon”

It’s been nearly a decade since we’ve heard from the once-very-buzzed-about post-punk band Merchandise, whose last album A Corpse Wired for Sound came out in 2016, though singer Carson Cox has been involved in other bands in that time, but they made a surprise return over the weekend with their first new song in nine years, “You Shot Me Down.” It’s a melodramatic, Smithsy jangle pop song and it finds Merchandise in pretty great form. Carson says:

Here is a new song from wMerchandise called “You Shot Me Down.” I’ve been working on our 6th Lp since 2019. It’s hard to say how long it should take to finish an album in the chaos of these past years but it’s coming soon, just not quite yet. All the same I wanted to share something, after a long time of radio silence.

This for the fans that after all these years still ask me for new music. Myself and my bandmates all live in different cities, we have different live now but i still have more to say with this project. It’s a lot harder to make anything work now as we all know but I don’t feel like I should let it stop me. I know music can still open hearts.

We’ll keep you posted on that new album as soon as we know more. Meanwhile, listen to “You Shot Me Down” below.
