Metric have announced a new album, Romanticize the Dive, out on April 24th. They’ve also shared the album’s first single, “Victim of Luck,” along with the news of a 2026 North American tour alongside their friends Broken Social Scene and Stars.
Romanticize the Dive serves as Metric’s 10th album and was recorded at Electric Lady Studios in New York City. It was produced by Gavin Brown, who previously worked with the band on 2009’s Fantasies and 2012’s Synthetica, with co-production from Liam O’Neil and the band’s guitarist, Jimmy Shaw. Romanticize the Dive follows Metric’s two Formentera albums, which arrived in 2022 and 2023, respectively.
“Victim of Luck” is the first offering from the new album, and it’s a nostalgic return to the 2000s indie sound that brought them exposure. Synths sparkle and fizz beneath Emily Haines’ descending melodies, with drummer Joules Scott Key employing a dance-forward beat. Haines looks back on her early self in the track: “I was a starving artist but I was fearless,” she sings in the first verse, later channeling the song’s momentum to vow “It’s time to live my life now like it’s never been done.” Stream the track below; the song’s official music video drops at 12:00 p.m. EST.
“The song ‘Victim Of Luck’ and really the entire album is about the romance of a less than perfect life,” Haines said about the project in a press release. “It’s about dropping the mask of self-consciousness and vanity. It was a long journey for me to get out of my own way and I wanted this song to be a rallying cry for that, better late than never. You can be as much a victim of good luck as bad. So when we started out yes we were broke and we were playing to ten people and there was nothing for us to fall back on but we refused to give up, and it’s not as though we’re all superstar billionaires now, but that was never what we were after. It turns out the grind is the thing you wouldn’t trade and the bonds you made can’t be faked. What we wanted is what we have and we’re not victims of anything. We dedicated our lives to each other and it’s the best feeling in the world”
Metric have also announced a 2026 North American tour with Broken Social Scene and Stars. The “All the Feelings Tour” will kick off on June 8th in Austin before hitting cities like Los Angeles, Chicago, Philadelphia, and Brooklyn.
