Midlake have announced their sixth album, A Bridge to Far, which will be out November 7 via Midlake Records / Believe. (It’s their first since 2022’s great For the Sake of Bethel Woods.) “The album title and track, not a typo, explores the hope, belief and ultimate path to something or somewhere greater, despite the circumstances,” says the band’s Eric Pulido. “Escapism can be a double edged sword but the desire is to encourage it for good.”
The band made the album at Austin’s The Echo Lab Studio with producer Sam Evian, and it features contributions from Madison Cunningham, Hannah Cohen, and Meg Lui. “Making this record with the band and producer Sam Evian at Echo Lab was a great experience and the perfect match for these songs,” says Pulido. “To just play in the room together and capture an authentic interpretation of songs is a great joy and on this album we did just that. Stylistically there’s familiarity in places we’ve been as a band in the past as well as new places.”
The first single from the album is “The Ghouls,” a typically lush Midlake creation of textured, propulsive folk rock lifted by the band’s signature harmonies. You can watch the video, shot in the studio during the making of A Bridge to Far, below.
