The new EP, a companion to the five-track (Un)planted collection, sees jaeger draw a parallel between the cello and her own childhood, which saw her shuttled between Japan and the UK. Born in Japan, Jaeger moved to Britain at five, returned to Tokyo at sixteen, then settled in London two years later to study music full-time. “The UK had become the only home I really knew, but then I suddenly had to leave it,” she says of that second upheaval.
“Being uprooted makes you feel like a plant in unfamiliar soil, having had your roots moved and replanted before you’ve had a chance to take in enough nourishment from the soil you need.”
jaeger debuted in 2020 with her debut EP Look at Us and has collaborated with Imogen Heap, Patrick Watson, Christian Löffler, Daughter, Courtney Pine, and Tanita Tikaram. She was classically trained at the Royal Academy of Music and recently played a sold-out headline show at St Pancras Old Church.
