Mitski wipes Instagram, hints at new album with mysterious phone line

1 month ago 23

Yesterday, fans noticed that Mitski wiped her Instagram clean, seemingly archiving all of her posts. Not long after, Mitski uploaded a brief video, which appears to show her cooking (literally) and humming as she goes.

Alongside the video, Mitski added a new website link to her bio, wheresmyphone.net. When you click on the link, it takes you to a page with a phone number and an image of an iPhone lock screen that appears to pull fan messages through in real time. Upon calling the number, the following voicemail plays: "Hi, It's Mitski, you've reached the Tansy House. No one can come to the phone right now, but please leave a message at the beep."

Callers have also been directed to a sign-up link, which prompts an automated message reply that says "Thank you for your help". Fans have delved deeper into Mitski's clues, noticing that the colour of the phone screen and the battery life have changed over time, with some speculating that the battery decrease might even be a countdown to a Friday release, noting that it drops around 1-2% an hour.

Although Mitski has not yet confirmed what these teasers are leading up to, they mark her first major rollout since her 2023 album The Land Is Inhospitable and So Are We, which followed her return from an indefinite hiatus and the release of Laurel Hell in 2022.
