San Diego hardcore band Mizery made a lot of noise back in the mid 2010s, but they haven’t released new music since their 2016 debut LP Absolute Light, and in 2023 they were forced to hit pause after the untimely passing of drummer Cayle Sain. But today, they announced a new self-titled EP, due March 20 via Flatspot (pre-order).
After Cayle’s passing, the other members of Mizery realized that Cayle had actually laid down drum parts for some new pre-production demos that they had sent him, and producer Taylor Young (who Cayle played with in Twitching Tongues and God’s Hate) helped the surviving members of Mizery obtain those drum tracks and finish these six new songs. The first taste is the ass-kicking “The Weapon Pt. II,” which comes with a music video by vocalist José Luna that pays homage to early ’80s hip hop and metal videos. Check it out below.
