With warm vocals and a gentle “Afro-Appalachian” folk arrangements, the Liberian-born Mon Rovîa nestles urgent social commentary within a meditative sonic landscape. Intensely intimate and widely evocative songs touch on gun violence, incarceration, identity, and resilience, such as singles “Heavy Foot” and “Oh Wide World.”As a press release puts it, the collection serves “as both a personal memoir and a collective testimony.”
