The Instagram account MozPosting is a beloved source of Morrissey memes, shitposts, and the like. Unfortunately the admin may have taken things too far with a fake Morrissey Central blog post that has gone so viral that the Smiths singer's management has reportedly threatened them with legal action.
The shitpost in question is titled "The Malefactors," serving as an ersatz list of people Morrissey consider enemies. It goes as such:
Johnny Marr, Princess Diana, Keir Starmer, Anthony Kiedis, Elton John, Aubrey Drake Graham, Lisa Simpson, Donald Trump, Thom Yorke, Damon Albarn, Taylor Swift, Zendaya, Katy Perry, Jack Black, Machine Gun Kelly, Edward Cullen, Popeye, A very judgemental garden gnome named Clive, Jamie Oliver, Keanu Reeves, Ryan Reynolds, Snoop Dogg, Bruce Springsteen, Willem Dafoe, Brian Cox, Meryl Streep, Bigfoot, Madonna, Kylie Minogue, Kate Bush, Duran Duran, Noel Gallagher, Canada, Lucio, Nigel Farage, Oldplay, Johnny Marr, Ronald McDonald, Alex Turner, John Cena, David Attenborough, Paul Rudd, Stephen King, Cher, Rowan Atkinson, Stevie Nicks, Jeff Goldblum, Gordon Ramsay, Stanley Tucci, Björk, Donna Noble, Mitski, TV Girl, Tame Impala, Alex G, Chris Pratt, Arnold Schwarzenegger, Jennifer Coolidge, Tilda Swinton, Peter Hook, Mike Mills, Elon Musk, Justin Bieber, The Blue Album, John Gilman, Steven Patrick Morrissey, Charli XCX, Johnny Marr, Sam Browne, Elijah Wood, Siouxsie Sioux, Sam Altman, J.K. Rowling, Coleen Hoover, David Tennant, The Guardian, C418, Russell T Davies, Stanley Kubrik, Joaquin Phoenix, Ross Geller, Chappell Roan, Miley Cyrus, 50 Cent, Tom MacDonald, Ulfric Stormcloak, Ben Shapiro, Mark Fischbach, Joe Talbot, Nicholas Cage, Sam Levinson, Mo Chara, Margaret Thatcher
This is a work of creative greatness, in my opinion, which is probably why it went so viral. Allegedly, some internet users have been thinking this is real. They think Morrissey actually called Edward Cullen, Canada, The Blue Album, and TV Girl his enemies. And Machine Gun Kelly. I think we should all collectively decide that Morrissey does not know who MGK is. That being said, Morrissey does post ridiculous stuff on his blog every now and then, so it is somewhat understandable to fall prey to this satire. Anyway, MozPosting deleted the post and then uploaded Instagram Stories saying Morrissey's management requested the removal of the post because of "copyright infringement and impersonation." Here's what they wrote in full:
Hey everyone, you may have noticed that I've removed my most recent post. I was just contacted by Morrissey's management team and I was asked to take the post down due to copyright infringement and impersonation.
This account is and has always been intended as satire, and the post was a parody, but I don't want to create any unnecessary issues. Thank you to everyone who enjoyed the joke while it lasted.
To everyone messaging asking if my previous story is a joke….. unfortunately, it isn't. :(
I'm genuinely devastated. I'm a huge fan of the man's music, and this whole situation has been incredibly disheartening.
I created this page out of appreciation and to share a few laughs in difficult times, because goodness knows we could all use them. It was never intended to cause harm.
Thank you to everyone who's reached out with kind messages, I genuinely really appreciate it.
[Insert "That Joke Isn't Funny Anymore" quip here.] Hopefully this will inspire Morrissey to share a real list of his enemies to set the record straight. Meanwhile earlier this week he said that political activists have been posing as him online, including one linked to a former Smiths bandmate. In a couple weeks he releases his deluxe edition of March's Make-Up Is A Lie.
