MUNA Announce New Album Dancing on the Wall, Share Title Track: Stream

MUNA have returned to announce a new album, Dancing on the Wall, out on May 8th via Saddest Factory Records/Secretly Group. They’ve also shared the album’s title track alongside plans for a run of album release shows in Los Angeles, London, and New York.

Dancing on the Wall is MUNA’s fourth studio album and their first effort in four years; their previous album, 2022’s MUNA, earned the trio our Band of the Year accolade in 2022. The LP was produced by the band’s Naomi McPhereson. They’ll celebrate the release of Dancing on the Wall with a series of underplays at The Shrine in Los Angeles (May 8th), Music Hall of Williamsburg in New York (May 16th-18th), and Heaven in London (May 26th-28th). As the first preview of Dancing on the Wall, MUNA have shared the title track, a buoyant slice of ’80s-influenced dance pop. With crystal-clear lead vocals from Katie Gavin and backing harmonies from Josette Maskin and Naomi McPherson, the song tracks the frustration and self-sabotage that come with unrequited love. The band have also shared the official music video for “Dancing on the Wall,” featuring Gavin, Maskin, and McPherson grooving out, mugging dramatically, and finding strength in each other. “Dancing On The Wall is possibly our favorite song we’ve made as a band,” MUNA say of “Dancing on the Wall” in a press release. “We think it’s all the best parts of MUNA — it’s coming from a really emotional and lonely place, but the song itself makes us feel powerful and euphoric. It’s written in the moment that the clock strikes midnight at the ball, and you have to give up the fantasy. In this case, it’s the fantasy of loving someone or something that can’t love you back.”

MUNA have kept busy since their last era concluded. Gavin released a solo album, What a Relief, in 2024; the group also guested on songs by Holly Humberstone and Empress Of.
