Muse are back with “Unravelling,” their first new song in three years.
The new track finds Muse back in a similar sonic mode to their last album, Will of the People, leaning into the more metallic side of their arena rock formula. Matthew Bellamy narrates a dramatic scene of him and a lover having to band together in secret and flee an oppressive, high stakes situation, as is standard fare for Muse these days: “Our love is an unlit script no one can memorize,” he sings in the verse, later announcing in the chorus, “This is a hymn for our love with no God and no throne.”
Meanwhile, as they had on 2022’s “Kill Or Be Killed,” the band add a few breakdowns in the mix; particularly a pummeling bridge that precedes a soaring solo from Bellamy. Check out the official lyric video for “Unravelling” below.
Muse are heading back on the road in Europe this month to celebrate their forthcoming new era. They debuted “Unravelling” last weekend at Finland’s Rock Fest, and have more festival performances scheduled this summer at Hellfest, Pinkpop, Open’er Festival, Mad Cool, Nos Alive, and more.
