Mynolia – “Needle”

Maja Presnell, the young musician who records under the name Mynolia, grew up all over the world, never settling any one place for long. These days, she's based in Nashville, and she makes gentle and hypnotic indie folk. She released the album All Things Heavy in 2022, and she followed it yesterday with the perfectly lovely single "Needle."

"Needle" is a soft, thrumming home-recorded reverie that's full of field-recorded birdsong. Mynolia took those ambient sounds at a cabin out in the American countryside and in New Zealand, the place where she was born. On "Needle," she sings soft harmonies, and her voice and acoustic guitar do call-and-response things with the rapturous pedal steel played by Miranda Lambert sideman Spencer Cullum. This is a very pretty song, and you can hear it below.
