Activision has confirmed the next Call Of Duty game will be Black Ops 7, which launches later this year.

Activision Blizzard typically releases a brand new Call Of Duty game every year. For months, there have been rumours the 2025 edition of the hit shooter would be a sequel to 2023’s Modern Warfare 3 but over the weekend it was confirmed Black Ops 7 will release later this year.

The sequel to last year’s hugely successful Black Ops 6 will take place in 2035 and, according to Variety, will star Milo Ventimiglia, Kiernan Shipka and Michael Rooker.

The report says Ventimiglia will play David Mason, a protagonist previously introduced in Black Ops 2 while Rooker will reprise his role of Mike Harper from the same game. Shipka will play newcomer Emma Kagan, the CEO of The Guild.

In a statement from Activision, Black Ops 7 has been described as “the most mind-bending” Call Of Duty game ever.

“Developed as the next evolution of Black Ops, this is the first-ever consecutive release within the series, set more than 40 years after the events of Black Ops 6. The year is 2035 and the world is on the brink of chaos, ravaged by violent conflict and psychological warfare following the events of Black Ops 2 and Black Ops 6. Wielding cutting-edge technology, David Mason and his team must fight back against a manipulative enemy who weaponises fear above all else,” the statement continues.

The game will feature solo and a multiplayer co-op campaign, alongside a “signature” multiplayer experience with brand new maps. The popular ‘Zombies’ mode is also getting a refresh with “the next twisted chapter of round-bases” mayhem. Black Ops 7 “delivers the full Call Of Duty package for our players, and we can’t wait to show the community more,” said Call Of Duty director Mat Cox.

A firm release date has yet to be announced but a full reveal of the game will take place this summer, ahead of a 2025 launch.

Black Ops 6 was released last October and Microsoft reported that the game had the “biggest ever launch” in the franchise’s history. However fans have criticised recent updates that have “made the game worse”.

In other news, it’s finally been confirmed that Black Myth: Wukong will be available for Xbox players later this year, 12 months after it arrived on PlayStation.
