NEW MISERABLE EXPERIENCE (Ex-REVOCATION, RIVERS OF NIHIL, Etc.) Drop New Single "Ataraxia"

New Miserable Experience, the Philadelphia-rooted collective featuring members of Rivers of Nihil, Rosetta, ex-Revocation, and Model Prisoner, have revealed a new single titled "Ataraxia," offering another immersive preview of their upcoming album Gild The Lily. The band's third full-length arrives January 23 via Pelagic Records.

Formed initially as a remote collaboration between vocalist and bassist David Grossman (ex-Rosetta) and multi-instrumentalist Joshua Mahesh Kost (Model Prisoner), New Miserable Experience has since evolved into a full band. The lineup is completed by Rosetta drummer Bruce "B.J." McMurtrie Jr., former Revocation bassist Brett Bamberger, and Rivers of Nihil guitarist Brody Uttley, whose collective experience brings both technical precision and emotional depth.

On the single, the band comments: "'Ataraxia' started as one of Brody's ideas. We all felt it had a Portishead type of vibe that we instantly grabbed on to. As far as the lyrics, when life is falling apart the idea of 'Ataraxia' (calmness untroubled by mental or emotional disquiet) sounds very appealing."

Across its 12 tightly arranged tracks, Gild The Lily strips the band's sound down to its essentials: strong melodies, controlled dynamics, and richly detailed production. The album favors emotional weight built through patience and atmosphere over overt heaviness, creating songs that reward repeated, attentive listening.

Blending alternative synth rock with chorus-soaked guitars and a rhythm section that shifts between propulsion and spacious ambience, Gild The Lily draws influence from artists such as Crosses, Ulver, and The Black Queen, forging a sound that feels both modern and deeply immersive. Pre-orders are available here.
