Taylor Swift fans are legion, so it’s no surprise that New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani has counted himself among the Swifties.
What may be surprising is how far his fandom went, as a recent New York Times piece detailed his top 12 favorite Swift songs, which included some deep cuts that only dyed in the wool acolytes of the pop megastar would know.
Mamdani’s favorite songs in no particular order are:
01. “Only the Young”
02. “Love Story”
03. “my tears ricochet”
04. “I Forgot That You Existed”
05. “Dress”
06. “Cruel Summer”
07. “Delicate”
08. “I Know Places”
09. “I Don’t Wanna Live Forever”
10. “I Think He Knows”
11. “London Boy”
12. “august”
With the city abuzz about Swift’s wedding to Travis Kelce almost assuredly happening at Madison Square Garden, Mamdani was asked last month if he would be attending, and while he said he would not, he dropped that he would listen to “Only the Young” in their honor, leading enterprising Times journalist Emma G. Fitzsimmons to uncover the mayor’s top Swift tunes.
Mamdani had his Swift phase in 2021, Fitzsimmons reported, when those dozen of her songs made his 100 most streamed songs.
While Swift and Kelce haven’t made any public announcements about their wedding details, news organizations have been reporting that the shindig is going down July 4th weekend, with festivities beginning July 2nd and the big celebration happening July 3rd. Consequence put together everything that’s known about the wedding of the century.
Mamdani also recently spoke about his top 5 rappers.
Speaking of Swift tunes, see which of her songs landed on Consequence’s 250 Songs That Argue for a Better America.
