Of The Trees nurtures a whole new ecosystem across the ten tracks comprising Moonglade Park.
Anticipation rippled through the scene when whispers of new movement surfaced on Of The Trees‘ socials. The internet launched into hyperdrive as cryptic hints left breadcrumbs for fans to analyze and decode on what looked like an early 2000s-style national park homepage. When Moonglade Park was revealed to be more than a website — an entire album rollout to be exact — the excitement reached a fever pitch.
Four years have passed since his last adventure was transcribed into sound, yet each song on The Tale of Elegos still activates full-body goosebumps as if the story were unfolding anew. Now, Moonglade Park beckons with a journey that carries everlasting side effects of its own.
Before its grand reveal, Of The Trees teased fans in the best way possible, with the directorial help of Jay Sansone. He brought two immersive music videos to life for “Dolori” and “Look Into My Eyes,” and on Wednesday, he premiered the entire album with a visualizer so everyone could experience his intended vision for Moonglade Park.
These ten tracks are not merely an album. They’re more like a mental sanctuary. Imagine a secret place tucked between the folds of sound and imagination, where listeners can wander through moonlit groves as whimsical wind brushes their skin. It’s an ode to nature that only Of The Trees could conjure. In Moonglade Park, every melody is a path, every pause a clearing, and every note a gentle invitation to let go and find solace.
The entrance doors to Moonglade Park are opening. It’s time to frolic amongst the pines and wildflowers.
A soft glow builds behind towering stone doors as “Park Entrance” slowly parts the gates. Sub bass frequencies wash over the sonic expanse, enveloping guests and regulating their nervous systems. A flawless transition into “Dolori” then bridges eager anticipation into a cathartic release through weightless movement.
Time to wake up the “Sleeping Giant” and explore the park from a whole new vantage point. When I say attention was paid to detail on this one, I mean it. So many sounds interlaid within the track give your brain that good tickle — you all know the feeling I’m talking about. And when you think you’ve uncovered it all, a closing Easter egg nod to “Starlight Lake” off Of The Trees’ 2019 Tanglewood EP trickles in.
The first collab exceeds expectations as Elohim and FLY feature on “Afterlight.” Whatever the afterlife may be, it’s hard not to imagine it feeling just like this song: luminous and nurturing. Then, the “Pressure” is on as we pick up the tempo midway through the album. Dark, sexy breakbeats take control, carrying your feet without hesitation, leaving listeners lingering on Of The Trees’ every note.
After that, Harvey Whyte carries “Interlude” as if it were sacred. The wealth of knowledge conveyed through his ballad pours over a levitating frequency worthy of a podium.
No introduction is needed for the aforementioned “Look Into My Eyes.” EARTHGANG help tell a trippy tale best experienced seated fully and tuned in. Words flow out of the duo effortlessly like a river, as disorienting trumpets keep your head on a swivel.
Player Dave enters the park with “Acadia.” This mashup intertwines the two producers’ love for a gentle track that flirts with a hint of danger, as light-footed, oceanic waves of electric sonics crash onto the shore.
A familiar voice enters as Sophie Marks comes in on “I See A Fire.” Her spectral vocals paint a picture of self-exploration. As we trek forward, it’s as if each word spoken makes us lighter until the music reaches a breaking point, allowing a release that’s been pent up inside for way too long.
Our time at Moonglade Park has come to an end as “Park Exit” ushers us out through the same doors we so eagerly entered. The elevating frequency flows through you just as before. Tears well up unwillingly as the motherly words rest on your ears, “As long as there is the will to live, you can turn any place into a paradise. After all, you are alive.”
It continues: “As long as there is the sun, the moon, and the earth, it will all work out.” Chills land in all the best ways, like a hug from one of your favorite artists. Of The Trees has given us the mental clarity and reassurance we’ve all been craving, all displayed in one perfectly imperfect ecosystem: Moonglade Park.
