Hard Hearted Woman arrives after Ora Cogan's EP Bury Me released last April. She began writing the songs on the album throughout the winter that followed her 2023 album Formless, with "Honey" being the first glimpse of that period, some of which Cogan spent in rural British Columbia. The new single is accompanied by a video directed by Paloma Ruiz-Hernandez, of which she comments: "The idea was to enter into an existence of absurdity where everyone is simultaneously isolated in their own loneliness and drowning in collective longing and lust.”
The album was recorded with Loving's David Parry in Victoria, British Columbia, at her own studio in Nanaimo, and remotely with producer Tom Deis to capture the resilience of "anyone trying to stay open, even when the world makes that feel impossible."
Cogan will be bringing the songs to the stage with a tour of the UK and Ireland in support of the album, which is set to kick off on 19 March at The Hope & Ruin, to continue in Oxford (20 March), Manchester (21 March), Newcastle (22 March), Edinburgh (24 March), Glasgow (25 March), Galway (27 March), Dublin (28 March), Cork (29 March), Sheffield (1 April), and Bristol (2 April), before concluding with a show at Dingwalls in London on 3 April.
