Paul McCartney pays tribute to Bob Weir: “great musician who inspired many people of many generations”

Paul McCartney has shared a new tribute to co-founding Grateful Dead member Bob Weir, who passed away at age 78 on Saturday, reminiscing about seeing Dead and Co. during their Las Vegas Sphere residency. “Bob Weir was a great musician who inspired many people of many generations,” McCartney writes. He continues:

I last saw Bob when we went to the Sphere in Las Vegas to watch Dead and Co. He was very welcoming and during the interval in the show he invited us into his trailer, and it was a special moment to meet his family and friends. Bob showed me the recording set up that he had in the back of the bus so even though he was on tour he could make and record music; I offered to play the bass on one of the tracks he played me but unfortunately that never came to pass.

His humour, friendship and musicianship inspired me and will inspire many people into the future. Our family’s thoughts go out to Bob’s family at this time of loss, and I know they will remain as strong as he would wish them to be.

God bless you Bob. See you down the road. Love Paul

Weir joined McCartney onstage during his July 17, 2016 Boston show at Fenway Park, where they performed Wings’ “Hi Hi Hi” and White Album classic “Helter Skelter” together. Watch video of that below.

Meanwhile, Morgan Neville’s documentary about McCartney and Wings, Man on the Run, arrives on Prime Video on February 27 after premiering last year at the Telluride Film Fest. There’s a new trailer, and you can watch that below as well.
