Paz Lenchantin, former bassist of Pixies and A Perfect Circle, has announced her debut solo album, titled Triste. Ahead of its October 17th release, she has unveiled the lead single, “Hang Tough” featuring drummer Josh Freese (Nine Inch Nails, ex-Foo Fighters), guitarist Troy Van Leeuwen (Queens of the Stone Age), and musician Jeffertiti (Father John Misty).
According to a press release, the album blends “Latin folk textures with American rock structures,” and features Lenchantin playing every instrument aside from the contributions from the guest musicians. Two of those contributors — Freese and Van Leeuwen — were bandmates with Lenchantin in A Perfect Circle.
Lenchantin wrote most of the songs in Petatlán, Mexico, where she had spent her time after the Pixies parted ways with her in early 2024. The album was mixed by Chris Coady, known for his work with Beach House and the Yeah Yeah Yeahs.
“I had to make this record on my own — not to prove anything, but just to have faith that music can nurture me back,” stated Lenchantin. “And it did.”
In addition to her stints in A Perfect Circle and Pixies, Paz was also a member of Billy Corgan’s band Zwan, and has recorded with Silver Jews, Ashes Divide, Jenny Lewis, and other acts. Last year, she made Consequence‘s list of the 100 Greatest Bassists of All Time.
