Penelope Isles' Lily Wolter announces debut album, A Moment In My Eyes, under solo moniker My Precious Bunny

The announcement marks Lily Wolter's first solo endeavour as My Precious Bunny, arriving nearly a decade since she formed indie pop band Penelope Isles with her brother, Jack Wolter. Today, Wolter shares the preview of A Moment In My Eyes, lead single "I Go Up, You Go Down".

Discussing the track, Wolter says: “In the peak of lockdown at my parents’ house, ‘I Go Up, You Go Down’ was an observation of everything that was happening around me at the time: Going through a long-term breakup and moving in with my folks, watching the world collapse on the news.

"Amongst the chaos, I was entirely consumed by how terrible it is that you can share a bed with someone for years, being entirely each other's world, then one day… you avoid one another in the street. A heartbreak many can relate to. This was the test mix that sealed the deal with Paul Gregory (Lanterns On The Lake). He managed to treat the dynamics of the song with such care, whilst giving it a rocket up its arse.”

A Moment In My Eyes was co-produced with Wolter's childhood friend Allister Kellaway, and sees her return to a project that she first started developing as a teenager. “Originally named ‘KookieLou’, I began this project when I was 16 at college in the Isle of Man, doing a B-tech in Art & Design. It was the beginning of me making stuff - sculptures, prints, drawings, and eventually demos," she explains.

While starting Penelope Isles meant that My Precious Bunny had to take a backseat, this didn't mean that the project wouldn't be shelved forever, as Wolter discusses the background of the upcoming album further: "I always had plans to do something with it someday, but never found the time because I was putting everything into Penelope Isles. It wasn’t until lockdown struck, and I became blessed with 4 months of living at my parents’ house in Penzance, Cornwall, with nothing to do except make demos and go surfing (I was one of the lucky ones).

"This is where I wrote most of these songs. Freshly out of a breakup, I was thrown into a heavy weight of reflection, jealousy, heartache, memories, confusion, insecurity and low self-worth, that was being tended to by making demos in my bedroom. I proudly listened to them on repeat, wondering what to do with it all. It was extremely cathartic, and I’m so grateful for that little chapter."
