Renowned synthwave pioneer Perturbator (James Kent) has officially announced his highly anticipated new album, Age of Aquarius, set for release on October 10 via Nuclear Blast Records. Perturbator is now streaming the first single "Apocalypse Now" featuring Kristoffer Rygg of the legendary Ulver.
Blending grooving electronic music with post-punk, goth, and techno influences, Age of Aquarius is Perturbator's most thematically ambitious and sonically diverse release to date. The opening single, "Apocalypse Now," is a relentless, apocalyptic anthem driven by heavy synths, industrial beats, and Rygg's searing vocals.
Directed by David Fitt, the music video explores the concept of humanity's self-destruction and the ultimate consequences of power, war, and individualism. "Apocalypse Now is about the systematic destruction we cause to our own kind," explains Kent. "It's our inability to coexist and the vilification of 'the other' that accelerates the end of our way of life."
Age of Aquarius serves as a concept album divided into two halves: the first explores human conflict, violence, and misanthropy, while the second delves into individualism and the dangers of groupthink. Perturbator's cinematic approach to music is evident throughout, with each track acting as a scene in an unfolding dystopian narrative. Notable guest collaborators include Alcest, Author & Punisher, and Greta Link.
On the record, Kent continued: "It’s about how modern society is defined by conflict and how personal identity is often lost in collective thinking."
Pre-orders for Age of Aquarius are available here. To support the album, Perturbator will embark on his biggest UK and European tour to date. The tour includes a headline show at London’s iconic O2 Forum Kentish Town, two sold-out nights at Le Bataclan in Paris, and dates across major cities including Berlin, Milan, Oslo, and more.
