Joy Division / New Order were announced among the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame’s Class of 2026 inductees on Monday night, with a ceremony set to take place November 14th in Los Angeles. Fans wondering if founding and former bassist Peter Hook will attend the event have already gotten their answer: Hooky, as he’s affectionately known, will be there.
It’s no secret that the relationship between Hook and New Order has been contentious since he left the band. In fact, in the new book Joy Division and New Order: Album by Album, the bassist is quoted as saying he’d never reconcile with New Order after their legal battle over the band’s trademark and other financial matters following his departure from the group in 2007.

“What they did to me over that trademark was fucking disgusting,” said Hook in the book. “They put my family through hell and they shortchanged me out of some ridiculous bitterness that I would never have done to anyone, so they can fuck off.”
Nevertheless, Hook is looking forward to the Rock Hall ceremony, and plans on attending the event at the Peacock Theater. In a video message posted to his social pages, the bassist expressed sincere gratitude at the honor.
“Hi, I’d just like to say how wonderfully pleased I am to be finally accepted into the Cleveland Rock & Roll Hall of Fame,” said Hook in the video. “I’ve been looking forward to it for years, so I’m definitely going to make the most of it. And I’d like to say that this is for Ian Curtis, and for all our fans of both bands. Without you, we would be nothing. So, thank you so much, and I will see you on the night.”
In a separate written statement, Hook remarked, “I am so happy about being accepted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame you would not believe it! It’s such a compliment to all the fans of Joy Division and New Order and now it’s been confirmed. My thanks to Ian Curtis, [New Order / Joy Division manager] Rob Gretton and [Factory Records founder] Tony Wilson — your inspiration and hard work has meant everything to me. I will be delighted to be inducted and am looking forward to the night so much! See you there. Peter Hook.”
New Order formed out of the ashes of Joy Division after singer Ian Curtis took his own life in 1980. Hook, along with fellow Joy Division members Bernard Sumner and Stephen Morris decided to move on as New Order, enlisting keyboardist Gillian Gilbert to round out the lineup.
It remains to be seen if Hook (who ranks No, 17 on Consequence‘s 100 Greatest Bassists list) will perform with his former bandmates at the Rock Hall induction ceremony, but at the very least, he will likely share the stage with them for their acceptance speeches.
New Order remain active to this day, while Hook tours as Peter Hook & The Light, playing Joy Division and New Order songs. Hook and his band will embark on a 2026 North American tour beginning in late August, with tickets available here.
