Portland hardcore punks Dry Socket have announced that they’ll follow their 2024 debut LP Sorry For Your Loss with their sophomore LP, Self Defense Techniques, due March 27 via Get Better Records (pre-order). The band cites early Ceremony, G.L.O.S.S., and Negative Approach as influences, and if you like that stuff you’ll probably like this album’s fired-up lead single “Rigged Survival.” Here’s what vocalist Dani Allen says about it:
“Rigged Survival” is about the suffocating reality of being priced out of your own life. It’s about waking up everyday in a system where your value is in your obedience and output. Even our hobbies, our art and joy have become a luxury most of us can’t afford. This song is that crushing feeling that this can’t be it, life should have more to it than working a job that destroys you and living with the fear of a medical bill making you houseless.
Musically, the track is fast and abrasive with a powerviolence swing. It mirrors the panic of trying to survive in a system built to constantly extract from us and the claustrophobia of living with billionaire’s greed.
