Portrayal Of Guilt – “Total Black”

2 hours ago 2

Portrayal Of Guilt's return is almost upon us. On Friday, the Texan underground rock extremists will release their new album ...Beginning Of The End. I have heard it, and it's nuts. POG's scrambling, guttural style doesn't fit neatly into any subculture bucket. They're noise-rock and hardcore and metal and screamo all at once, and ...Beginning Of The End takes them into ominous, gothic territory. You can hear some of that in "Total Black," their final pre-release single.

Before today, Portrayal Of Guilt have built up to the release of ...Beginning Of The End by releasing two tracks at once — first "Ecstasy" and "Human Terror," then "Object Of Pain" and "Death From Above." Today, they break us off with a single song, but it's got a lot going on. "Total Black" is a seasick wallow in dread that occasional speeds up into total black metal territory. Sample lyric that I never would've been able to discern if the band didn't provide the words in the YouTube description: "The holy water burns like napalm to my skin/ My limbs decay from within." Check it out below.

...Beginning Of The End is out 4/24 on Run For Cover.
